Paradise Retreat is your own private resort on Hawai'i’s Big Island. Relax and enjoy the swimming pool and hot tub in our private, fully enclosed back yard. Lounge poolside in the sun-soaked chaise chairs or stay cool on the covered lanai. In the evenings, enjoy starry nights and listen for the waves crashing just a few blocks away.
The home is designed to collect the island trade-winds and naturally cool the interior, especially during the evening hours with the A/C off and the windows open. Our A/C systems efficiently cools the home during warm days, if necessary, using only solar during the day-light hours.
Our home has been recently updated, is fully furnished and stocked with linens, pool towels and all the kitchen items you'll need for cooking your favorite meals. Water from our well is filtered and UV-treated before entering the home.
Paradise Retreat has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. The main bedroom suite has a king-sized bed, en-suite bathroom with slate tiled shower AND jetted bathtub. The two additional bedrooms share a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. One of these bedrooms has a queen size bed and the other has two twin beds. The third bathroom is in the large laundry room. We provide a washer and dryer for laundry and a starter supply of laundry strips to avoid large plastic detergent jugs.
Located in Keaau just south of Hilo, Paradise Retreat is in a great place for day trips to Volcanoes National Park, Hilo, Pahoa and the heritage Hamakua Coast. Let us point you in the right direction for adventures, cultural sites and ocean activities. Our neighborhood is quiet at night except for the mesmerizing Coqui frogs. Please respect quiet hours 9pm to 8am by keeping noise levels low. If you can’t hear the Coqui’s, it’s too loud. This is the 3rd time we have stayed at the Paradise Retreat and again were not disappointed. The home is extremely clean and tidy, responses from on-island contact are always prompt and helpful. The pool was amazing as usual. This home exudes every bit of tranquility you could ask for and all the amenities to boot. Amazing roadside Huli Huli chicken stands, farmers markets and downtown Hilo are only minutes away as well as all the wonderful sights in Volcanoes National Park and on the other side of the island. We plan to continue to come back and stay at Paradise Retreat again and I highly recommend it to anyone else wanting a wonderful, extremely clean and fully stocked home to stay at while exploring all the Big Island has to offer.

Very clean, quiet location, beautiful home with a great pool. It was awesome to have air conditioning. We go to the Big Island every year and this is one of the few Vrbo’s that we stayed at that has AC. Management team was awesome and went well out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable.

We had a wonderful stay at Paradise Retreat, it was exactly what the title says, a Paradise retreat. We all enjoyed the pool and spa especially after a morning of snorkelling or sightseeing. The house was very clean and had all the amenities you would need. A fully equipped kitchen and laundry facilities. The beds were really comfortable and I can not fault the house in any way.

If you’re looking for privacy and seclusion at an affordable price, this is the place for you. We stayed two weeks in this wonderful house and enjoyed our stay very much so. We found the house to be very clean and well stocked with everything we needed. The house and the grounds are beautifully kept. We enjoyed the local restaurants too. We usually stay on the Kona Coast, but thought we would stay on the Hilo side of the island for a change. We were not disappointed at all. The only issue we encountered was that my spouse is psychically challenged and found it difficult to get in and out of the pool without help due to the pool does not have a hand rail to assist her. We had one issue with the Television remote control and the maintenance staff took care of the issue immediately. The management staff was wonderful too.

We are 5 adults that truly enjoyed our stay. The property is well maintained and so clean. We used the kitchen lots and found it well stocked. Really appreciated the grill. Jacuzzi was so nice to relax every evening. Communication was excellent with management. Highly recommend this rental and will hope to return.We visited Volcano National Park, Lava Tree Park, Hilo Bayfront, Pineapples Restaurant, Kaleo, Tina's Thai, Hilo Bay Cafe, Susain fish market - get Poke!, Planetarium, Botanical Bioreserve, and Mauna Loa. Such a great island to explore. Even the city Zoo was fun.

The property was just as pictured! It was clean and well-maintained. It included lots of kitchen gadgets (such as a rice cooker), pool toys, lawn games, and jigsaw puzzles. The outdoor space made it feel like a true tropical escape with lots of seating, a lovely pool, and lush tropical plantings. Even when we did day trips, we made sure to save a few hours for lounging back at the house. We also loved the eco aspects (solar panels, recycling, composting). The Salt Water Vacations team is friendly, professional, and attentive. We would definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed staying here in 2022 we had to visit again. This home is clean and had everything we needed.Just being on the property is so relaxing with the pool and jacuzzi.
We liked the layout of the house so much we are looking into building one off of this design. Our family never felt crowded the complete stay was just wonderful. We plan to make this a yearly visit.
Communication with Property management was prompt. We would definitely recommend this property.

The pictures online don't capture the peace and serenity of this beautiful property. The home was spotless; the decor and artwork was beautiful. The lanai and pool area are straight out of a magazine. The contact at Salt Water Vacations was very helpful when we had a little difficulty finding the address.. Without reservation, I highly recommend Paradise Retreat.

We loved this house so much. Our family of 6 had everything we needed and more space than we knew what to do with. Everything was immaculately clean and the contacts were professional.
We enjoyed the pool and hot tub very much and it was great to have the full size laundry.
The house is close enough to Hilo that it’s not a pain, unless you get traffic that’s busy, then it takes awhile. But there’s lots to do in that area.
We really enjoyed the east side of the island, especially Volcanoes NP.
We did have to take 1 day to go to the West side and try the snorkeling and a luau. It’s a long 2+ hr drive but great scenery and worth the trip!

After reading the reviews I was concerned about the air-condition not being in two of the bedrooms.. It was not an issue and we were there in the heat of July.

The home was better than in the pictures! Very clean. Felt like a tropical rain forest paradise. Quiet and private. Perfect honeymoon. Loved listening to the rain and the sounds from frogs and birds at night. Conveniently located for Volcano National Park, Zip lining and Botanical Gardens. Had great suggestions, for swimming and hikes, listed in the welcome binder. Saltwater Vacation was very helpful from the time we booked, during check in and till the very end. We are looking forward to returning very soon.

We had a lovely 3-night stay at Paradise Retreat; the property is beautifully landscaped and we spent as much time outside as we could to enjoy it—the pool, lack of light pollution, and singing birds made it easy to do!
There were strict instructions not to use the hot tub (which we didn’t mind, but that it is mentioned in the listing is confusing; similarly the listing photos showed one extra bed in the laundry room which has now been converted into an office. Again we were able to work it out by having our kids share a room but just FYI—that said, if we could work remotely we would’ve wanted to stay longer—or forever?!—it would’ve been a perfect setup with the bedrooms on the other side of the L-shaped ranch!).
The mini splits made it easy to cool the kitchen and master bedroom—and fans in the other rooms helped to move the air around, but it definitely took a few hours before the smaller bedrooms cooled down enough for my kids to be able to fall asleep, so just remember to get the air moving as soon as you get into the house. After the first night it wasn’t a problem at all as we kept the windows cracked open to keep the air moving.
There were plenty of dishes, glassware, silverware, etc which made cooking quite easy (unlike some rentals where they just have 4 plates and you’re constantly running the dishwasher).
We had a mixup of address and gate code provided to us prior to check in, but the local contact was very responsive so when we had an issue it was quickly resolved.

The previous owner didn't want people using the hot tub, but the current owners are happy to provide that amenity. If you come stay again, we highly recommend turning the AC off, opening the sliding doors and windows and turning on the ceiling fans. It's really not needed in our perfect climate with average highs of 82 degrees Fahrenheit year round. We all live here and none of us have AC in our personal residences. But we know that many guests won't consider a vacation rental without AC - even if its not at all needed ;-) Take care and please keep us in mind if your travels bring you back this way. We would host you again, anytime!

My wife and I were lucky enough to stay here for our honey moon and it was perfect. It was just what we were looking for. It was secluded enough where it didn’t feel as if we were in the middle of a tourist attraction and yet close enough to the city of Hilo that everything was in an arms reach. The scenery and amenities of the house were incredible. We intend on coming back every 5 years for our anniversary with our children. Highly recommend!

This vacation rental is a treasure nestled away in Hilo’s luxurious community. The landscaping is beautiful and provides a complete barrier from surrounding homes to give it a “resort” feel. Although we visited in December and the pool was too cool to enjoy, we still thoroughly enjoyed the pool side view. The home is very beautiful and has ample room for the family. It was more beautiful than I had anticipated, very clean, and beautifully decorated! We hope to come back and stay again! Thank you for providing our family with luxury and relaxation!

It was a great vacation house! Beautiful garden, nice size pool, very spacious and clean! I wish the front gate was automatic and there were AC in the other two rooms but still it was manageable. It was such a beautiful place to stay! Highly recommend it!

We had a party of five stay for 9 nights. The pool was lovely and it was great to have access to a washer and dryer. The location is quiet, which is what we were looking for. We have family in Hilo, in Keaau, Pahoa, and the volcano area, so it was a drive, but not too far for each location. We also really liked the yard, which has beautiful plantings. The two smaller bedrooms are warmer than the rooms with AC, and there are only 4 dining chairs, which are counter level, so you can’t put more than 4 at the table at once. Overall, we had a great stay.
